Councillor Chris Jennings

Vice Chair

Although born in Shropshire, I spent all my school years in Hallen, situated just north of Bristol, attending Henbury Comprehensive school and from the early 1960’s to the mid 1970’s I spent most summer weekends sailing at Oldbury. University education was in Newcastle upon Tyne where I graduated with a degree in Mining Engineering. Moving to the Midlands to work for British Coal from the late 1970’s to 1992. Following the collapse of the Mining Industry I followed a career in pre-cast concrete, managing factories in the East Midlands. On retiring in 2016 I moved back to Oldbury buying my parent’s cottage.  It seemed natural to return to our roots.

My wife, born and bred in Lower Almondsbury, was a teacher by profession, now retired. We have two adult children and three gorgeous grandchildren. As well as being with the grandchildren, we both enjoy travelling both in the UK and further afield.

Since moving to Oldbury I have been an active member of the community, being on to the Parish Council since 2019.   I am also the Chair of Oldbury Memorial Hall committee and oversaw the successful application for a grant of £99,999 from the Lottery Commission to improve access to the Hall for our less able parishioners and to increase internal facilities.
