Sizewell A completes Bradwell mobilisation

Since entering Care & Maintenance in 2018, Bradwell site has undergone annual examination, maintenance, inspection, and testing (EMIT) mobilisations. The 7th mobilisation completed in June was one of the most extensive to date involving over 200 routine maintenance checks and the repair of civil defects varying in size and severity located in the underground voids beneath reactor safestore 1.

Seven civil defects exhibiting dry cracks, wet cracks and calcium defects were selected to trial a range of repair products and techniques. Each of these required a tailored approach to ensure proper examination, preparation, and ultimately, a successful repair.

Given the unique challenges of the work and the conditions within the voids, we brought in a specialist concrete repair company through our licensed contract partner to carry out the repairs.
