Major upgrade for Wylfa turbine hall
The Wylfa team pulled off an impressive feat – removing 1,184 glass panes and installing 924 metres of new cladding – the length of 9 football pitches!
The turbine hall, a 232-metre-long landmark, once relied on glass panels for natural light. But years of coastal weather caused damage and water ingress, creating safety risks. This project tackled those issues head-on.
Delivered by Altrad with support from construction, waste management, riggers, fitters, and apprentices, the team worked as one – finishing a month ahead of schedule. Innovative solutions like suction pads for glazing removal and safety rescue scaffolds kept the job safe and efficient, while extra repairs added even more value.
The result? A safer, more resilient turbine hall, free from water ingress and ready for the future.
