Oldbury completes demolition of six buildings

Oldbury successfully completed the demolition of six buildings, including the 132kv switch house in 2022.  This was a major piece of hazard reduction work and a significant visual change for the site, that included the removal of over 6000m2 of asbestos as well as nearly 2,600m2 of demolition footprint – that’s the size of ten tennis courts!

Mike Heaton, Oldbury Site Director, said: “This was a huge package of work and the first piece of significant demolition that the site has undertaken since decommissioning began utilising the external principal contractor approach. Work began around 12 months ago to ready the buildings for demolition and utilising these arrangements I’m pleased to say the work has been completed safely, compliantly and efficiently.”
