Seeing the nuclear power lifecycle

We were delighted to welcome Dr Nicki Crauford, Chair of the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), along with colleagues Mike Finnerty (Chief Nuclear Inspector), Linda Aylemore (Finance Director), Peter Thompson (HR Director) and the Sizewell A, B and C Site Inspectors to Sizewell A.

This was part of a wider ONR tour of Sizewell A, B and C offering a comprehensive view of the nuclear power lifecycle – from construction, electricity generation to defueling and decommissioning.

At Sizewell A, the spotlight was on:

• The turbine hall demolition project

• The site’s strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility

• Our role in supporting the local community.

The team also referenced Bradwell site for its successful transition into the Care and Maintenance phase.

Dr Nikki Crauford, ONR Chair, commented: “The visit demonstrated to me the excellent and open working relationship that has been established between the ONR and Sizewell A staff as well as the high levels of professionalism, enthusiasm and commitment of everyone we met.

“I really appreciated being able to visit Sizewell A, early in my tenure as ONR Chair, to hear more of the site’s complexities and the challenges it faces.”
