Celebrating success

Katie Pitts, was Highly Commended in the National Higher Apprentice of the Year Award category of the Department for Education’s National Apprenticeship & Skills Awards 2025

Katie’s achievement follows her South‑West regional win as a Level 5 Nuclear Technician apprentice at Hinkley Point A.  

Judges commended Katie’s commitment to technical training, passion for STEM outreach and active involvement in professional networks. 

Katie has shown what it means to be a true role model, inspiring colleagues and communities alike.  

As part of the celebrations, Katie and Steve Davies – the Hinkley Point A School Co-ordinator – were invited to the Houses of Parliament by Rachel Gilmour MP (Tiverton and Minehead). 

This was a brilliant opportunity to showcase how we are inspiring the next generation through education and skills initiatives and to discuss the vital role NRS sites play in local communities. 

Rachel commented: “It was a pleasure to welcome Katie and Steve to the Houses of Parliament yesterday. I really enjoyed hearing about her exceptional achievements as an apprentice at the NRS Hinkley Point A site and the great work she does in the community supporting STEM careers. It was inspiring to hear of her efforts in what is still a male dominated field, and I wish her well in her STEM career.”
