Councillor George Jamieson

Councillor George Jamieson

Vice Chair

I was elected in 2022 as a local councillor representing the Annadale South Ward in Dumfries and Galloway.

After my studies in Edinburgh (initially Physics and Mechanical Engineering before switching to Agriculture) I was a partner in the family farming business. I left the business in 2001 after 25 years due to the foot and mouth outbreak which resulted in a personal tragedy for our family as our pedigree herd of cattle were destroyed.

My career then took me to five years with the Scottish Government Agriculture and Environment department, to two years as an agriculture consultant with the Scottish Agriculture College, before joining the National Farmers Unions as a Political Policy Manager for 13 years, before retiring.

My working life has offered me the opportunities to build knowledge and experience, the humility to realise that there is much more to learn, and that informed collaboration in good faith is essential for progress. I have studied and value mediation.

I am married and have two children, both currently studying at university.

In my personal life I have been heavily involved with School Parent Councils at a local and national level and I played, captained, and coached my local rugby club for 25 years.
